Xcel is not focused nor concerned about retaining people. Xcel has policies about safety and work-life balance and they follow it only if it's convenient for them. Xcel skews definitions by calling a hiring freeze a pause while majority of the departments are under staffed Most changes are lateral moves with no pay increase despite an increase in job responsibilities. Company imposes major budget cuts despite making huge profits Horrible leadership that makes poor decisions and expect employees to work overtime to correct their errors without admitting any wrong-doing Xcel states that their pay is competitive but they only compares job titles and not roles and responsibilities. When an employee leaves, you are expected to cover their work with no compensation and often times the company decides not to backfill the role. Work environment is toxic and it appears that the leadership looks for benefits that employees enjoy just to take it away when they do not get their rate hike. Xcel implemented a hybrid policy and hired people based on that policy just to reverse it and make everyone return to the office. Leadership has very selective hearing and retention, often times making up stories to justify a policy. The company struggle to retain and promote their black employees, but are quick to boast about the ones they have before they leave the company. Following an 8.3 billion dollar profit in 2022, Xcel is talking about removing benefits, eliminating employee bonuses, increase scrutiny on backfilling vacant positions. Leadership has a very limited knowledge of the groups they lead and somehow make it the employee's fault for not educating them. Leadership will give a presentation on the importance of work-life balance, then right after ask you to work extra time. The written policies are only applicable when the company wants to punish an employee for not volunteering time to do extra work, but the company leadership does not follow their own policies. Company leadership unplugs during their time off from work, but expects their employees to be reachable during their time off from work. You can expect an 1%-2% raise each year unless the company does not get an rate hike, then you can expect no raise. Either way, your pay is below market and your raises are below inflation. The longer you stay with the company, the less money you make. The company feels that wages should not matter to employees and they should love the work they do and what they can accomplish. This is said by leaders making $200k+ a year.
