I was contacted via recruiter for the interview process. The recruiter told me what to prepare for before I went in to the interview. The process went fine, they asked behavioral questions and some logic questions. I answered everything they wanted to know, and spent an hour talking about past projects, my knowledge of a certain language, etc. I was told there was to be no code challenge as they have never given one to any candidate. After an hour, the last question was a code challenge even though no other candidate had one. I believe this was because I am a female front end developer. I had outside distractions and was not able to complete the test. They offered no help, no reassurance, even though it was clear I needed to gather my thoughts and needed a little direction. They sat there silently for 15 awkward minutes while I tried to clear my family from the room (COVID has everyone working from home) and tried to pick up the logic. I talked through the algorithm I would use, tried to make conversation, still nothing from them but smirks.
I left the interview with a very bad taste in my mouth. I was singled out for a code challenge when no other applicant had been. After about 30 minutes, they called my recruiter and told me they passed on my application. I'm glad they did, because if that is how they collaboratively code I want no part of it. Congratulations to the four of them, they are what is wrong with a large population of the male development community.
Female developers beware. You will be singled out. You will be humiliated. And you will get no help or support from your team if you work here.
