I applied for the role at ALDI and heard back within approximately 1 week. I was then asked to attend a trial shift with 3 other people, which lasted for around 2 hours. After briefly going over health and safety regulations, we were asked to have a go at "carding" (removing loose card) the shop floor, and putting out some stock. Having worked at ALDI for 3 years now, I think they were looking for speed and ability to get along with colleagues during this shift. The next day, I was asked to attend a group interview which lasted about 1-2 hours in total. The interview was held in the staff room, and was mainly a discussion of ALDI as a company and their values, as well as general discussions of how to deal with certain situations in a retail environment. To prepare for this interview, it is important to know as much about the company as possible - the interviewer will ask open questions to the group, and the more you know, the better. We asked to write a brief statement in 60 seconds about why we felt we were perfect for the role, whilst avoiding cliches. We also were asked to participate in a short maths test of 2 minutes, whereby the questions focus on amounts of "change" given. Although I did not do well with this, I explained that I do struggle with maths but only when under pressure and when not dealing with physical money, and that in the scenario on the till I would be fine. Given my past cash handling experience, I think the interviewer gave me the benefit of the doubt. At the end of the interview, three of us were asked to remain behind and have one-to-one interviews. During this section, I was asked about the maths test, and more broadly about my wishes for the future and about my home life, childhood and family.
