Colloquio
Long process! Lasted over 8 weeks! First two stages are online. Tests, both multiple choice and written answer. The third is a video interview which is just plain awful. The fourth stage is a group assessment day with a regional director. The fifth is a one to one with yet another regional director. The last stage is an interview with an area manager and an aldi experience with a store manager.
REALLY ALDI? 6 stages?
Having got through every stage with great feedback from regional directors I went to an Aldi experience day with a store manager who clearly didn’t like me and had a chip on his shoulder. He was very unprofessional. I was asked questions that I would only know the answer to after I had completed my training. Questions about bench marks, back room standards, staff operating procedures etc. This kind of thing would be taught through the 12 week training program. What I fail to understand is why the final decision is made by a store manager? I wouldn’t be working for a store manager! Such a shame that Aldi make people jump through hoops and walk over hot coal. I have over a decade of store manager experience and that clearly means nothing if your face doesn’t fit! I do wonder if the fact that I mentioned I was in a same sex relationship made a difference in the final stage! To top off the whole experience I was sent a generic email declining my application that states that they cannot provide individual feedback! I’m not sure how much time I have invested in this process but I’m pretty sure it would amount to over a full weeks work, is it too much to ask for someone to spend 20 minutes to give me some feedback? Poor show aldi!

In my final stage with a ‘Store Manager’ after sailing through the interviews with regional directors I was asked to memorise PLU codes for vegetables!

Colloquio
The interview process felt impersonal and poorly structured. The first step required recording video responses to generic questions with very limited time, which felt rushed and disconnected.
After advancing, I completed a phone interview with a Senior HR Representative who emphasized having over 20 years of retail experience. Unfortunately, the experience did not reflect that level of professionalism. The audio setup made it difficult to hear clearly, and the tone throughout the call came across as disengaged and occasionally condescending. Given the emphasis on tenure, I expected clearer communication and a more candidate-focused approach.
When asking questions, responses were often vague or redirected back as questions, offering little clarity. The overall lack of structure, enthusiasm, and clear communication made this portion of the process unnecessarily uncomfortable.
In contrast, I went in-person and spoke to the Management Team who were professional, engaging, and a complete turnaround. They were more aligned with the company’s brand and expectations.
Overall, the HR interview stage did not represent the organization well and could discourage qualified candidates before they ever reach the final interview.

The HR representative focused narrowly on one aspect of my background, and the conversation never progressed into situational or role-related questions. I was not asked about leadership style, work ethic, or how I would handle job-relevant scenarios, and the call concluded shortly after with a general prompt asking if I had any questions.
Lovely, was amazing. Best interview i have ever had , definitely the best the interview iv ever had and i would definately recommend to have an interview with the same people as i had it with
