      Colloquio per Publications

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso ARRS (Leesburg, VA) nel mese di mar 2013

      Colloquio

After applying online, I had a phone interview with someone not in the hiring department, who was helping out the person who was hiring. Then, I was brought in for an in person interview with the hiring manager. Also, I interviewed with the employee who was leaving. The in person interview took two hours. Hiring manager went over my resume and talked a lot about what the job would involve. The headquarters was a very nice building surrounded by trees. As I was driving down the driveway, I saw four deer by the driveway. It's a very pretty, peaceful campus. The staff I met was nice. The hiring manager said that the association has a staff of 40, and the organization has about 12,000 members. The association is strict with its budget - unless you planned to spend money on a specific thing, you're not going to get money for a new cost in the same fiscal year, except if you cut something for the same amount. Staff seemed very close. Everyone has to pitch in to help each other. Hiring Manager also mentioned that there's not much room for career advancement, so employees tend to be either 1) middle-aged people who come in at a higher level and are content to stay for a long period of time; or 2) young people who use the organization to get to a certain level and leave ARRS within a couple of years. Although I didn't get the job, I enjoyed the interview, which sounds weird and is not typical with job interviews. I like the hiring manager and the employee who was leaving and enjoyed my conversations with both. The one drawback is that no one told me I didn't get the job. I only found out because I followed up with thank you notes. The hiring manager must have either forwarded my note or told an employee in the business operations department about it because shortly after I sent the thank you note, an employee in the business operations department sent me a short rejection letter. I thought this was a bit unprofessional since I gave them over two hours of my time for the interview and had a pleasant time with the hiring manager.
