      Colloquio

I had a good phone interview and the hiring manager brought me in to talk again. I met with one business person which went great, and then met with the hiring manager. He then proceeded to ask me the exact same questions that he asked me over the phone. It was kind of unprofessional because he didn't remember ever talking to me. Next, he asked me some technical questions and then because my answers were not his answer, he proceeded to tell me my answers were incorrect. A couple examples of questions. What type of scripting language are you familiar with? He knew that my Unix skills were not the high point of my resume, so I started to explain my knowledge of PHP. He responded annoyed, cut me off, and told me PHP is not a scripting language. Funny, first thing after the interview, I googled PHP, and well you know what it said. Next, he asked me what I would do if a report was taking a long time to run. I then started to explain how I would evaluate the SQL, and then find out what part of the SQL was running slow. He then said, no, let's say its not the SQL, what would you do? So I said, I would have to talk to a DBA and research possible missing indexes or something on the database side. The manager was not impressed and said , no you should look at the previous data loads and see if there was any abnormal loading of data. He also seemed surprised that a data base would not have indexes built for certain queries. Anyways, this position looks to still be open. When I interviewed in January, they said they would probalby be purchasing MicroStrategy in a week. It's April, if you are interviewing for this and they still have not purchased the software, you may want to ask about this.
