This is one of the most baffling experiences I've ever had with a company. I was contacted by their in-house recruiter for this role and told it was confidential and not posted. I met with the CIO for a 30 minute conversation and was then moved on to an onsite. They knew I was in Portland which was 5.5 hours away. They did agree to pay for my hotel. I attended about 6 hours of interviews on site with the C-Suite and was told by the CEO he'd be recommending me to move forward.
A few days later I was asked to interview again with the CIO for more "Technical" questions (remotely this time). Who suddenly seemed far more interested in SAAS (ERP - SalesForce) than actual IT Direction, but at the end of the conversation he said he was going to put me forward and would have HR reach out to me that night or the next morning. A week later was silence and I followed up for status where I was greeted with a form-letter style "We've gone in another direction with the role"
I don't mind not being a fit for the job but what I do mind is that they brought me onsite when the clearly did not know what they wanted. I spent $200 on gas and took a day off of work on short notice to make it happen.
I'd be very careful around a company that has such little regard for the people they are interviewing.
