      Colloquio

The interview process was long and arduous. The first step was a phone screening with HR, which consisted of questions regarding my background in the travel industry, why I'm interested in Adelman, my salary requirement and some information about the job I was applying for. When I asked her the salary range she told me she did not know what it was. What kind of HR person doesn't know the salary range for the position? I knew she was lying to me. The second interview was a face to face with the hiring manger, a person from training, and a couple hours later an SVP joined. During this interview the training person was typing on her computer the whole time, which I found to be rude and distracting. They went into detail on the position and some of the specifics of Adelman and company history. They asked the same questions as the HR rep. How long have I been in the travel industry, what is my experience with corporate travel, etc. It seemed to go well everyone was extremely fake nice and all smiles. A week after the interview they sent me a data analysis project, with very little direction on what they wanted to see and less than two days to complete it. So basically I had to drop everything in my life for two days and I made sure I worked on the project to show my best work and value to the company if they hired me. The third interview took place over phone, with the hiring manager and two other employees. A director and an account manager. They wanted to talk about the data project I had been given and said they were impressed. I felt they were picking the whole thing apart. It was somewhat grueling. This position was virtual as long as you live further than 40 miles from the office, but you have to come to the office once a week. A couple weeks later they called and gave me a verbal offer with a low salary offer that was not in my target range. I pushed back and the next day they came up about 3K but still not within my target range. When I questioned it they explained that was all they could offer because they are a mid-size company. They gave me very little time to consider the offer. In the offer letter, they also included a date and time deadline. When I missed the time deadline by two hours and told them I need more time to consider the offer, in addition, I was considering other possibilities. At that point in the conversation they rescinded the offer and told me to consider those other opportunities. Rather than realize that I could have been a very valuable person to have on their team they were angry and annoyed that I was interviewing with other companies and that other companies wanted to hire me. They also wanted me to start immediately and really wouldn't give me a couple of weeks to get my personal things in order, so I could start a new position with them and give all my attention to the training piece of it. It was a long process, with little and poor communication. They tried to rush me into making a decision. I could understand why they were in a hurry and why they couldn't wait a couple more days. It seemed shady to me and they were angry when I was honest. It was handled very poorly. In reality they showed their true colors and I feel like I dodged a bullet.
