I arrived at this company as a temporary contract employee in the Quality department (split between both QC and QA) doing some scientific computer programming on a LIMS system, and also some data digitization, and occasional data analysis work, as well. After 4 months, I was offered a permanent role. The interview was simple, concise, and to-the-point. Up until that point, I had spent the previous five years seeking a scientific or technical role in any number of commercial or industrial companies, and after the first year, I began encountering this phenomenon of the "rough ride" or "stress test" interview. Once I had the first one of those, it seemed that every 'interview' after that, with very few exceptions, was another one of those. I did have a decent interview with a startup in my area, but like most startups, they will love you if you have the right skills, but good luck if their investors pull out their investments suddenly. I eventually got temporary work in other industries, and during the pandemic. My interview here was like a wonderfully refreshing blast of daylight compared to the 'dark night' of the previous crop of years of "rough ride" interviews.
