I applied online and received both a phone call and interview 4 days later asking to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview was then scheduled for early the following week. The day of the phone interview, in fact, 40 minutes before the interview was scheduled to take place, I received the following email:
So sorry for the last minute notice but we have actually filled our Meetings Manager position with a candidate who was previously in the process. We don’t anticipate having an opening on the Meetings team in the near future so wanted to be respectful of your time and suggest we cancel our conversation scheduled for today. We appreciate your interest in the firm and please continue to monitor our website for any openings of interest.
I found this to be very frustrating and unprofessional. Had they not wanted to waste my time and were truly respectful of it, then they would have given me notice of this more than 40 minutes prior to the scheduled interview. People take the time to prepare for interviews with a company and position they are very interested in. It's not like I had intended to wing it. Significant time was spent preparing.
This was very poor form and it speaks volumes to the type of company The Advisory Board truly is. I'm only grateful that I was given the opportunity to learn this up front.
