Interviewed by three people, all of who during the course of the interview made at least one rude/crazy statement. Example: One of them had attended a seminar that I had wanted to attend, I said that we would have met that much sooner. Her reply (with a totally straight face) "Well I wouldn't have talked to you".

So who approves payroll? They had a process where three different people went over payroll, and could not believe that it was solely my responsibility at my current job
That sounded like a strange interview. I will be sure to give my accounting staff training on conducting interviews. One thing to keep in mind is that conducting an interview is difficult, especially for a position as vital to an organization as payroll. You may have just experienced nervous interviewers.
