The issue was the lack of follow-up from the Director and HR. If a person in good faith is emailing you regarding the application status, have the decency and the professionalism to respond to the email instead of letting them hang. It's not only rude not to acknowledge the e-mail, but also plain disrespectful, especially after being told to reschedule an interview at the last minute.
