First round was phone interview with a recruiter and he was great. I always appreciate when they go over benefits and pay at the beginning so we aren’t wasting our time. The second interview was video, scheduled for 30 minutes, pretty normal, talking about what the job entails and my experience. Then I get the surprise test at the end. You have 30 minutes to complete this writing test which included about 10-15 grammar questions, and writing a protocol summary and 3 paragraphs about yourself. It seemed quite manipulative, a person would have to be spectacularly fast to complete it all in the allotted time. I did go 4 minutes over. I sent it twice in case one didn’t go through. The hiring manager did not respond. I contacted the recruiter after a few days and he did let me know they were going forward with other candidates. Medical writing is a slight career change for me, maybe a test is normal? But not mentioning it ahead of time and assuming people would automatically schedule an extra half hour for this interview seems disrespectful. I’m fine with not getting an offer, I’m not interested in working at a place where they spring stuff like this on you as a test.
