      Colloquio

I made an appointment for an interview over the phone for two days later. The interview was about 10-15 minutes long. This was the first part of a three part process. The interviewer asked me a few questions that I answered truefully and in a positive discription. I asked my interviewer a couple of questions that then led my interviewer to ask me to return for a second interview. I will add more later as the process continues.

      Colloquio

I was contacted by a woman saying she had found my resume online and offered me an interview with a company that handled retirement and insurance benefits for police, firefighters, unions ect, stating that they we're looking to fill entry level management and middle management positions, as well as sales positions. I said I was not interested in sales, but I would like to interview for management. ( I have five plus years in administrative management)She said after viewing my resume management was more so why She was calling however a sales position might be discussed. Just tell the interviewer which position I'd like. So I went to the interview. When I got there several people we're also waiting to get interviews. I was taken back for a 1on1 with a manager I guess? She asked a few brief questions. Standard stuff. And I explained what I had done in my previous job. Keep in mind I have most of my experience in the administrative filed. She commented on my management experience and I stated I was there for the management position, not sales. She agreed and before I could ask to many more questions she stated that the owner and VP happened to be there today and would I mind speaking with them. They could answer any further questions I might have. Of course I agreed. I was taken to a larger room where the same people I saw in The waiting room we're seated. I was asked to fill out a personal assessment ( more standard questions(* professional goals, why would you make a great team member? Ect.) I thought we we're going to be called individually to speak with the owner/ VP. no. It was a presentation, on the company history, sales pay structure Benefits of working for the company and a brief explanation of the insurance benefit they are selling. Great presentation, had I been there for a sales job I would have been ecstatic. It was confusing, at the beginning he explained that the group atmosphere made it easier to explain the basics of the company faster to more people. Speeding up the process. Makes sense. He also said they we're hiring for management as well as sales agents. When he got to the part in the presentation about sales bonus and structure I thought how does this apply to me in an administration position? But figured everyone needs to sit through the presentation in the beginning right? It's good to know all aspects of a company to understand what drives the people you lead. However, After the hour long presentation, you are told only a few will get a call back that evening. I got a second interview and went in. I spoke with the gentleman who gave the presentation and asked the questions I had. Salary, hours, and what exactly he intended me to "manage" since none of this was specified, and remember, I had told several people before him I was not interested in a commission based sales position. He told me all his positions we're commission based, even management. No hourly, salary or administrative positions avaible. He was sorry I didn't understand the presentation. I was sorry he didn't understand I had told 2 people I didn't want a sales position. My resume was online for administrative professional, not sales. I felt the whole process was quite misleading. I was then offered a part time position cold calling people with resumes online and getting them to come in for the same interview process. He even said we tell people all their questions will be answered in the interview, if they knew they we're coning in for a insurance sales position they would probably not show or be interested. I know I would not have wasted my time if they had been upfront. When he asked what I was hoping to make hourly he scoffed and offered me 5 dollars LESS an hour. His whole demeanor changed when he discovered I did not want to sell insurance. They do have a good product. Their sales training seems solid and if you want to sell insurance you could make a lot of money. They remove most of the " blocks" that you run into in sales. You need a license and must pass an online course. Also involves travel in your own car to peoples homes for presentations. But if you have time for all that it does seem like a good company. On the other hand, I don't feel you should mislead people. Your product and program are good enough to offer to prospective SALES candidates. Administrative professionals don't get your hopes up. Keep moving unless you would like to enter into a commission based insurance sales career.
