      Colloquio

THE INTERVIEW The interview was a pleasant and easy experience. The CEO was the main contact and knows what he was talking about. He asked me about some technical questions and my experience with sensors and image processing. He later proceeded to tell me how great NJ is and how close the area is to NYC. The entire phone conversation lasted about 20 minutes. THE OFFER LETTER The offer came a week later. However, they only gave me a week to decide. The offer letter was very vague about the benefits and lacked the details in most other offer letters. MY RESPONSE TO THE OFFER LETTER Because I only had a phone interview, I don't know anything about the work environment. So in my initial response, I asked if we could arrange a tour so I can see the company and have a better picture of the work environment. I also asked about intellectual property and details of the benefit package. Up until this point, everything is normal in terms of company contact and politeness. THINGS START TO GET WEIRD AND GO DOWNHILL After I sent my response email asking them these basic questions, it seems all contact has been severed. The week after, I called once and send a follow up email, but receive absolutely no response. Another week passed, I finally managed to contact the CEO (the only contact throughout the experience), and it is as if he was a completely different person. Politeness and any common decency was gone. He said things like "why do you care about benefits? we are not looking for people who cares so much about benefits! That's secondary! ... Job is life!" I tried to politely explain that he was very clear about the job description from the beginning which was good, but the benefits was a little vague. He then made personal attacks on how I don't seen to care about work in general and only cares about the benefits. How defensive he got over my inquiries makes me think they don't really have a benefit package ready. Finally, I asked him why the company failed to reply after I sent my questions, he said, "We had no desire to reply. I know it's impolite but we didn't want to waste OUR time." I paused then simply said, "Thank you for your time." and hung up.
