The interview process started out well, and I'll start by saying I had a company referral. It took about two weeks for a recruiter to reach out to me, but she was very friendly and easily accessible. I scheduled my first interview with her which was just a regular screening with more behavioral type questions and benefits. She was really personable and we had a great conversation. She sent me a follow-up email explaining my next interview would be more technical, saying that he would ask me some out of the box thinking questions. I gave my availability and didn't hear anything back for a few days. As I was heading to lunch I got a call from the second interviewer so I immediately rushed to call him back. I was told he looks for personable candidates but I found that to be the furthest thing from the truth. The first question was "If I have a rubik's cube 10x10x10 and I dip it in paint how many cubes would be covered in paint?" I told him that I didn't have anything to write with to draw the cube, but he said there were no wrong answers (not true!). From there, the entire interview went down hill. I felt like he was smug, condescending, and obviously looking for a cookie-cutter applicant that could answer all of his predetermined riddles that had nothing to do with the job. I proceeded to give context about how I migrated to IT and he completely cut me off basically insinuating that he didn't want to hear what I had to say and that I wasn't answering the question. After the interview I got an automated response saying I wasn't selected to proceed forward and all communication abruptly stopped. My advice: stop pretending like you are Google! It comes across as super pretentious and predatory and does not help you find the right candidates. This is perhaps the worst interview experience I've ever had.
