Colloquio
I was emailed by a recruiter, and the process took 2 weeks. I interviewed with Apple (Cupertino, CA) in March 2022.
Phone screen, two 1:1 video interviews with hiring manager and an engineer, live design challenge with two engineers. Didn't get to the final chat with the director.
My resume was in the Apple job system, and a recruiter contacted me about a position I hadn't applied for. The screening and both 1:1 interviews went well enough to get to a joint vidcon where they presented a design challenge problem. The design challenge was a live series of questions over 1.5 hrs about design requirements and your solutions, unlike other design challenges that Apple usually presents to hardware engineers, where one is given half a day or up to one week to work on the complicated design problem at home, preparing a presentation that is given to the team. In this case, the series of questions involved details about a specific product that I hadn't encountered at work in eight years, so my rusty answers apparently weren't what they were expecting.
Domande di colloquio [1]
Domanda 1
How many projects have you handled at one time?
What aspects must be considered for a switch on a product?
The interview went well overall. The interviewer opened with a discussion about a project I'm proud of, then a beam scenario question that covered structural and load analysis, stress and deflection, and material selection — testing my ability to connect first-principles thinking across the full problem space.

Interview with hiring manager then virtual onsite. They ask you general mechanical engineering questions as well as questions dependent on type of team and skills they are looking for. Not bad overall just brush up on basic beam deflection, GD&T, Design analysis etc.
They gave me a take home tolerance analysis worksheet. It was essentially a tolerance stack up for one of their products and felt fairly straight forward. Thought I answered it well but ultimately they decided to move forward with other candidates.
