      Colloquio per Advanced Systems Engineer

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite segnalazione di un dipendente. La procedura ha richiesto 2 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Aptiv (Kokomo, IN) nel mese di apr 2018

      Colloquio

Very simple and straightforward process. I applied online, but then ran into someone I knew who worked there. They got me a phone interview with my potential boss at the time. My potential boss asked general knowledge questions about my background in technology and how I work in a team environment and where I had been applying previously. It moved on to an in person interview in the building where I would work. We began with a walk around the office showing off the amenities at 9 in the morning (ie: free coffee, drinks, lounge area, etc). Then, I preceded to interview with several employees on the team, all who were really engaged in their work and were interested in sharing what they were working on with me as an interviewee. Finally, I got to interview with a potential project manager who I would be working under. The project manager asked general questions about my previous positions and what skills I could bring to the team. There were no other technical questions other than explaining what I had done in the past at other companies. They were really interested in my experience with cloud technologies and my discipline as a software engineer. This particular team is full of mostly electrical or computer engineers. After about 3 hours inside the office building, my future boss took me out to lunch on a 1-on-1 meeting. We spent about 1.5 hrs at lunch discussing a combination of things: life outside of work, work-life-balance, my role on the team, what skills I would bring to the table, and some general personality questions. This is an advanced research group, so he was rather interested in my disposition towards learning and failure. I would say it was close to 4.5 hrs total. Overall, the interview was very low key and relaxed compared to several other interviews I went through during this same time period. In my opinion, my potential boss (different from who the PM was) was trying to sell me on the company much more than I was trying to sell myself. There was additional hospitality, effort, and respect that was put in during the talent acquisition process that I hadn't experienced previously when interviewing for other companies. I heard back from the interview a little over a week later with an offer.
