I applied online on Arup careers website. About a month later, I was booked for a telephone interview. Interviewer called in about 20-30mins after the interview time which was very unprofessional. He was very apologetic. We had a brief chat about the role. He said he would recommend me for a first stage interview. There was a 1st stage interview organised. It was with couple of SMPs from the team. Very nice people. We had a very pleasant chat. They were both younger than me but clearly very switched on. I passed the first interview with no problems. 2nd stage interview was with an Associate Director of the company. One of his first questions was, tell me what you know about this project. He was clearly expecting me to do my homework on the project. Having done some research, I told what I know about the job. After each sentence, he was butting in and correcting what I’ve said… which was rather annoying. I eventually said, “this is all I know” as I did not want to continue any longer. A very confrontational start and I not ‘click’ with the interviewer at all. From that point onwards I switched off and was giving random answers to the questions. I would have walked out if it wasn’t a professional occasion. Overall I did not have a good experience (at the second interview) as it was more of a ‘knowledge show’ by the interviewer rather than a pleasant chat about my knowledge and experience.
