Colloquio per Senior Digital Campaigns Manager

      4 apr 2016

      Esperienza negativa

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 2 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso BMO Financial Group (Toronto, ON) nel mese di gen 2015

      Colloquio

I was contacted and screened by an HR representative. Then a second HR representative also screened me. I was asked to fill out two different online assessments (about 4 hours into the interview process at this point). I was then brought in for a face-to-face meeting with the hiring Manager. I was the first person this Manager had met with in regards to filling the role. The interview went great, but when I asked him at the end if there was anything about my background or experience that would make me not an ideal candidate he replied, no; he commented that my experience fit the role perfectly and that I seemed great! He then said his only reservation was that I only had 10 years experience and the person I'd be replacing had 20 years. He informed me I was hoping to find someone at a higher seniority level. I pointed out the job description said 5-10 years experience and I was on the high end of that. I also pointed out that I had gone through two screen calls and online assessments just to get me to this meeting with him. He also have to review my resume prior to accepting the interview, so if having 15-20 years of experience was required why had I been brought in? (It was at this point I started to feel like I had been interviewed in bad faith - my time having been wasted), and he didn't have much to say in response. He just rattled off some excuse that he was still willing to consider me despite this. Also during this meeting he commented he didn't really want to support or mentor anyone that worked under him. He preferred to hire someone who didn't need his advice or help regularly as he was a busy guy. One side that was fine because I don't need constant support but for a Sr. Manager to talk that way at an organization like a bank it didn't sound professional or appropriate. After the meeting I followed up with the second HR contact and told her what the Manager had said. She told me I was correct on the experience level required for the position and that the hiring Manager didn't have authorization to hire someone at that seniority level. She told me she was going to connect with him within a day or two to see where this feedback was coming from and make sure him and HR were on the same page. She also said his comments about not wanting to have to support or mentor anyone under him wasn't appropriate and she would look into what he actually meant by that. We left the call with her telling me she would follow up with me in a few days. I actually had to make several attempts to get some this feedback from her and, every week sent an email asking how the interview process was going and if any decisions had been made. After six more weeks of following up they ended up not hiring anyone at all. The position was put on hold I was told. It was a complete waste of my time and I feel they interviewed me in bad faith. I also strongly feel that HR should have managed the interview process better and made sure the hiring Manager was conducting interviews in a timely manner, and fully intended to actually hire someone for the role. I also feel they should have done a better job with keeping me informed over the two months. I doubt I would have ever heard from them again if I wasn't going my due diligence to follow-up and stay informed.
