I was contacted by a recruiter initially, during my screening interview with her she told me it was her last day with the company, not a great way to start the process. Scheduled Zoom interview with the head of retail and head of diversity was horrible. They both came across as egotistical bro culture, hardly asked any questions about leadership, employee development or showed any interest in my experience and I have over 15 years SM experience in similar brands. They were more interested in learning about the shopping center I worked at where the new store was opening at. I asked the diversity person specific questions about how the brand was going to work to create an inclusive culture for employees and customers that was open and welcoming to POC and the LGBTQ+ community, as most outdoor sports and stores are geared towards straight, upper-middle class whites. He had no answer and said that was the store managers job. They had no community building program as far as I could tell. As soon as I got off the call I emailed them and told them I was not a good fit for their brand. I visited the store I interviewed at 2 months after it opened, I spoke with the Store Manager and he said he was the 2nd SM in as many months. That store has now been open about 6 months and they are looking for another SM. Clearly a high rate of turnover. Not good.
