      Colloquio per Sales Director

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 2 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Bazaarvoice nel mese di mag 2010

      Colloquio

I applied Online for the Sales Director Position. I was e-mailed within 24 hours by an Internal Recruiter @ BV who was interested in setting up a Phone Interview. The Phone Interview was set up for the following week. The Phone Interview with the BV "Recruiter" lasted about 20 Minutes...most communication was one-way describing the quotas, verticals and "unique culture of the company". At the end of the Phone Interview, I was told that I had made it to the on-site portion of the Interview Process and would be contacted by a BV "coordinator" for further instruction and date set-up. The coordiantor e-mailed me and gave me set times that BV conducts on-site interviews (Tuesday and Thursday). I was told to pick a date. The person seemed to be rushed in the process and gave me wrong dates initially. The date was finally set for 2 weeks out. I consider this a longer period than is customary. On arrival the day of the on-site Interview (alloted 2 Hours), I noticed that the BV lobby was filled with candidates coming and going....pretty much a revolving door. Mostly Sales candidates etc. I spoke to a few and introduced myself to find out how their process has been handled so far. My on-site interviews consisted of meeting 3 seperate individuals from different areas of the company. 1st Interview: No small talk, immediately launched into conducting a "Role-Play" of me selling a potential client (interviewer) the full product suite of BV products (Ratings & Reviews, Stories and Ask and Answer etc). How would the products suit them? How would they bring value, not so much FFB, but how would it improve thier ROI? I had done much research into the company...read all the blogs, website, Twitter and was up on all competitive firms. It was hard to sell the BV products to a company (TicketMaster-Live Nation) that I had not much knowledge on. I went thru the product set to the best of my knowledge. Could see that the individual was not too impressed with my "selling". I believe the company puts great emphasis on Behavioral Interviewing, Role-Play etc. To me, this style of Interviewing went out in 1975....do they think they are Google or Apple? 2nd Interview: Account Management individual......asked me what I knew about BV and the e-commerce industry and UGC. Did my homework. 3rd Interview: Red Flag. The scheduled individual could not attend (code for: someone tipped him off not to waste time on me-no interest)....instead I was greeted by 2 recently hired individuals. Very nice and professional guys...liked their personalities. Liked their questions (off the cuff). Asked me questions about my family etc...what I like to do "outside of the office". Then I was asked to tell them my "Best Joke". I have never been asked this ever in my life. I have had Interviews with IBM, Google and Apple. Kept wondering to myself...these guys are obviously "fillers". Left the interview and went to the Lobby where I saw the individuals that were there on my arrival all leaving with me. So at least they all have their timing right. All in all, I was very excited about the opportunity....believed I have the experience, and unique personality that make for a great BV employee(one that wants to stick around). Within 24 Hours, I was told that I did "not fit their culture". I am unemployed, drove all the way from Dallas, spent the night under my own expense and felt that the whole process was a huge waste of time.

They will waste a lot of your time with a very lengthy interview and pitch process. You'll video chat with multiple people, then they ask you to do an in-depth presentation that will take you days to prepare for.

They expect you to do a lot of work and know their platform during the process.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and I am sorry it was an overall negative experience for you. I can't deny that the presentation at the final stage does indeed require some prep and homework. On the whole we do tend to find that candidates enjoy this part of the process as the deep dive does allow them to better understand some of the challenges we are trying to solve for our clients combined with learning more on the space in which we are working. We do also offer help in the prep either with the Talent Team or with some of the people you've met. I realise these points are probably no consolation to you right now but know that we do hugely value all of the time candidates put into a process so please be reassured on that front.

      - Call with internal headhunter - face to face interview with head of team - spent a further 3 hours with a few different members of staff, one at a time - not an interview per say but they're looking to see if you're a cultural fit - interview with VP department - 45 minute role play pitching the Bazaarvoice suite to senior staff members at Bazaarvoice It's a straight forward interview process, but the role play is tough. If you make it to the role play stage, they just need to see you in action and the job is there for you to lose. If you show that you're coachable , want to learn and want the job, you will get it. Advice for any role you're going for - learn as much as you can about Bazaarvoice. Be yourself. Ask as many questions as you can, incuding current staff members not involved in your interview process.

Applied online and first spoke to a recruiter, then had a call with the regional VP, followed by two separate "get to know you" meetings with employees outside the office. Was invited and flown down to Sydney for a fourth and final presentation - was given adequate time to prepare in an open format, with three people present and one person on the phone.

When you are in the role play, you have chosen and prepared a company to sell to. They then use a barrage of objections and difficult situations against you as you to try and sell. It is very difficult to find a gap, particularly as they have worked with the company in the past and already have explored the answers, while you are working with a grasp of what you have gleaned off the BV website, and your chosen company's website.
