I wouldn't go as far as to say this is a scam - but they're certainly misleading people. I told them I was no longer interested in the opportunity after the first phone screen. I applied online for a position titled Account Executive. I was contacted via email a couple of days later. From that point on, the position I was interviewing for was referred to at "Publisher". The phone interview was not an interview at all. They basically spell out everything about the role and hope that you don't run away. If you respond favorably, they ask you to move onto the second (and final) phone interview. Here's where it gets laughable. THERE IS NO SALARY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ROLE. Only commission, which on average doesn't begin to be paid out for at least 4-6 months. So basically you're working for free. The recruiter then mentioned that they do offer "training bonuses" to help ease the burden of not making any money. How much are the bonuses? $300 after completing the onsite training at their corporate headquarters in Milwaukee (oh-and you have to pay for your own flight and hotel), $100 after you complete another 3 day virtual training which takes place a week later, and then something like $100-$200 for every 15 meetings you book. This structure in insane. I was a bit insulted. I have 5+ years of sales experience and they tried to sell me on a role that they'd clearly have no problem offering to a kid straight out of college. I suppose if you're out of options, looking to work from home, and willing to work insanely hard this role could work out for you. Otherwise I'd invest time elsewhere.
