When I was hired you were interviewed by the Chief and the Sheriff and the Sheriff had the final say. You did have physical test involving running and an obstacle course along with a few other exercises. You were also given a test on information you were given to study.

Now it's done by a Civil Service board and they may ask you numerous questions that have no tie ins with law enforcement so many of the questions may catch you off guard.
