Overly corporatized interview process. You basically have TWO separate interviews (if you do well in the first). Even if you ace the interview, your offer is going to be low-balled. They are NOT open for negotiation, even though they said they were in the interview. Many of the perks they brag about if you were to work for Big Ant Studios are not in writing in the offer or contract for you to sign. This means at any time, they can take these perks away. Remember, it is your code, but their standards.
During the interview, they mentioned how great my resume was, yet they still only ever offered what they offered which, yes if I had half my experience would seem like a good deal, But I was not prepared to burn my freelance bridges in order to be on probation for the amount of time they want.
The people were nice and professional, so I don't put blame on them, the system they have needs improvement though. They just didn't price the individual for the job.
Since they use their own in-house engine for their games, they don't really know how valuable a cross-platform game developers are. They know the industry is not great right now, and they capitalize on that if you are desperate.
KNOW YOUR WORTH. It's okay to walk away from an offer if it is below your expectations.
For now, I will continue on my own projects and freelancing until Big Ant Studios learn that Unity Developers are not just an experimental playground for them. We get the job done and they know that's what they want.
