Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso BigCommerce (Cork)
Colloquio
Got the first round of interviews. Guy seemed uninterested and started asking me about risk or other arbitrary subjects. It was overall a bad experience. Didn't ask many questions related to ecommerce.
Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 2 mesi. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso BigCommerce (Londra, Inghilterra) nel mese di mag 2022
Colloquio
Long, multiple rounds but relatively informal.
First with a recruiter working with the company, then with a manager, then with senior team members and finally with a director.
More casual than formal although included some project management questions relating to past experience. Definitely an emphasis to get the right personalities to fit the culture of the team.

What are the different stages of a project, how would you add value to each stage?
I had an initial phone screen with the recruiter followed by onsite rounds of interviews. Overall positive experience meeting with most members of the team, however had some disagreements on overall interview approaches. They have a good team with great people. My first impression was that many on the team did not have much experience in the eCommerce space or knew about what was going on in the industry outside of the company. I was surprised by this because the space is fast evolving and I've had to constantly stay in tune with the latest news and happenings to meet the demands of customers and to be aware of potential game-changers, big and small. I think the team can invest more time and effort into preparing for their interviews, asking the right questions, and figuring out ways to get to know the candidate more thoroughly. Even though many of the team members I talked to didn't have eCommerce backgrounds, I wouldn't underestimate the value of a candidate with strong industry experience and de-prioritize this against other qualities. It could be the answer to their company goals. I spent a lot of time looking into the values and culture, including hiring culture, of the company. There was definitely a disconnect between the reality (now) and what is advertised on their website, videos, and blogs. This was a bit disappointing. Ever since interviewing at this company, I've interviewed at other places for similar roles and have had some more positive experiences, which has reenforced my beliefs. Even though I would have loved the opportunity to help take this company to the next level, it probably worked out for the best as I wouldn't have been a great fit in terms of shared values and priorities. I had a negative experience but I rate the overall experience positive because it was positive with the majority of the team.
