Colloquio per User Experience Designer (HTML/CSS)

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto una settimana. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Booking.com (Amsterdam) nel mese di lug 2016

      Colloquio

The recruiter contacted me via LinkedIn, gave me a job description and ask if I interested. Then we arranged the phone call. The first phone call was a screening interview. The recruiter asks my background, especially what I do. He did dig on my projects to find if I code or not. I did say I am able to code but with a help of documentation. Anyway, the first stage was so smooth, warm, and welcoming. He gave the detail of relocation package: the HQ, salary, live in Amsterdam, the relocation process and perks, which is very desirable for young hybrid-designer. We did make an appointment for our second phone call which (he didn't mentioned on the phone but describe in the relocation package document) is a technical phone call. Personal statement: During this time, I found that Glassdoor helped me a lot. I read the others' reviews and found that they really need the one who can do advanced coding (which I am not), but my thought was I have a willing to go for this challenge anyway. Before the second interview, the recruiter sent me a coding challenge, which I was not passed the test. I can say that it will be easy if you are A FULL-STACK WEB DESIGNER or A FRONT END DEVELOPER. The fundamental knowledge or the primary skill in HTML and CSS do not help unless you have been through a lot of practices and projects. This test needed to be complete in 30 mins without any help from the others, books, etc. Obviously, I have hot make it to 2nd stage with I feel a bit sorry because I have prepared for demonstrating my actual skills (design thinking and digital commerce knowledge). My opinion is Booking was looking for the FULL STACK E-COMMERCE UX WHATEVER. Which is if you are, just apply to the website. For me, the process of preparation of this interview lifted me up into another level. I have done a lot of homework on the market and self-reflection including decisions. I have learnt many important things. Thanks to the community in the Glassdoor for being such very helpful.

Applied through their website and was given a challenge to complete in 30 mins. I knew it would involve html and css skills but the challenge was ridiculous and irrelevant to UX design. Im glad I got to see what the job will invilve as it's not even what I would want to do everyday.

Quick code assessment, followed by screening call with a recruiter, followed by phone interview with two team members. The recruiter tries to anticipate what might be a challenge for you in the next round, and how to prepare. I was asked to present 3 ideas to improve the site, which seems like a lot for an interview. Seemed like I was doing well through the whole process until I received a rejection email after the phone interview. The reasons given for the rejection were a little vague and not reflective (in my opinion) of the work I presented. It was also surprising, given that the interviewers complimented my ideas as well as my technical ability. It gave the impression that they were just fishing for ideas to improve the site. I wouldn't be surprised to find the ideas I presented being implemented.

First was a simple test on HackerRank, followed by a phone interview with two employees. During that interview, there was another simple online test in real time. Just basic HTML & CSS. Easy. About a week later I got invited to Amsterdam for an in-person interview. HR manager was very helpful and friendly and assisted during the entire time, gave some valuable bits of advice about the interview process. I was asked to prepare 3 things I'd change on the Booking.com website, why and how I would measure the results. They booked the flights and hotel room for me. All was smooth and well organized. The interview was divided into 3 rounds with different employees. One technical, second more focused on your ability to think and solve problems, and the final one with lead designer. Everybody who I met at Booking.com during my visit was friendly and nice people.
