- Submitted online application and was contacted via email by a recruiter on February 18th with a generic email message for what next interview steps were.
- Asked to do an online video interview and completed interview on February 21st.
- Video interview was strange and impersonal. It consisted of pre-recorded video questions asked by different individuals.
- I was only allotted 2-3 minutes per answer. Each question was repeated up to 3 times before a 2 minute timer started to count down and record my answer to the question. The timer was in bright red font on the left side of the screen counting down as I spoke into the webcam.
- The entire video interview was maybe only 5 or 6 questions total and were pretty basic for a customer support position.
Here's what happened post-video interview:
- Received a confirmation email from Box stating they received my interview and should look for follow-up soon.
- Emailed the recruiter back to let him know I completed the interview and I asked him some additional questions about next steps. No response.
- Followed up with an email several weeks later on March 15th, asking about a status on the interview process. No response again.
- On March 24th, I get an email from ANOTHER Box recruiter asking me to do an online video interview. I told her that I've already completed this interview step and was wondering what happened to my video. I told her I reached out to the previous recruiter twice with no response. No response.
- On April 5th, I received a 3rd identical email from THE SAME female recruiter who contacted me on March 24th, asking me to complete an online video interview
- I wrote a final email to Box stating this was the worst interview experience I had ever had throughout my entire job search. Sending me 3 identical emails asking me to do an online interview was very annoying and looked really unprofessional on their part.
- In part of my email to them, I stated: "I also attempted to tell ______ that I've already submitted the video interview and also received no response. I'm unsure if anyone has ever received anything from me at this point and if there are actual recruiters on the other end of these communications.
My video has obviously not been received nor reviewed and I'd like to withdraw my application for this position. I have already accepted another opportunity with another company.
I have yet to talk to an actual person and the entire process has only communicated to me how disorganized Box is and how I am not a valued candidate either. Future candidates should not have to continue to have this kind of experience in the interview process, especially for such a big name like yours and if you wish to hire top talent."
- I don't really enjoy giving negative reviews like this, but Box should really know what a poor recruiting process they have and how ineffective and impersonal it is.
- Box, intentionally distancing yourselves from people you want to recruit by having them go through a video online interview process as a candidate's first point of contact is a big turn off and turns people away.
- Make a phone call or write a personal email, instead of sending potential candidate's stock messages. Talent Acquisition is about hiring the best people. That would involve talking to them personally and making sure they feel valued from the get go. Make sure your recruiters are doing their due diligence of following up with people and checking to see when an interviewee's video comes through.
