      Colloquio

      I had an initial interview via Teams in which I discussed my experience with two managers in an informal setting, they also told me a lot about the company and how much they enjoyed working there. My second interview was in person in the Huddersfield office. I met with one of the managers I had met previously, plus the commercial director. There was no small talk, and I immediately had to present the task I had been given. This task was not small, it had 2 questions - one was to analyse a category prior to a peak sales season and suggest improvements, one was to provide recommendations for a high view/low conversion item. I put a lot of work into this, given that the job was advertised at up to 36k salary. The presentation was fine, I was then asked competency questions around Buy it direct values, tough but expected from a corporate company. What wasn't nice, was the commercial directors attitude towards me, the general tone of the interview was cold, confrontational and at times, rude. There were certain personal questions which were asked in an accusatory way, whereas if I were interviewing someone for what I now understand to be more of a junior position than I first thought, I would have asked in a way that would make the interviewee feel more comfortable sharing. At the end I was asked about my salary expectations, to which I stated what was advertised. It was then explained to me that this was inclusive of "up to 6k bonus", which I felt was misleading. When I asked what the salary for the role actually was, they were unable to tell me. If companies are allowed to ask an interviewee for their salary expectations, they should at least be able to do the same. It felt to me like it was a tactic to lowball potential employees. I was told that I would hear about the job the following day, if not then, the week after. After almost two weeks, I followed up with them myself. I was told that annual leave had delayed the decision process. To be fair, they did provide a small amount of feedback. But given the effort I put into the presentation, the misleading salary, the interview itself and the long wait to find out - overall I was pretty disappointed.
