Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 4 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso ByteDance (Singapore)

      Colloquio

Tldr great for ppl who don't want an actual conversation/ two-way interview, and just want to regurgitate "correct" answers. This company is made for you. Questions were repetitive. 3-5 rounds of interview, but every stage was similar. There was no progression in difficulty, or even covering different types of questions. Just the same few OS, network, linked list, "low level" questions that wear you down. They also seem to be looking for very specific "correct" answers. Saying things they don't expect can throw them off, but they may not try to understand you. Half of my interviewers were significantly late for the interview (~10min). At every stage, interviewers were also surprisingly evasive about "what can I expect to do as a new hire". I was not asking for exact project, but just in general what have some of their new hires done, any possible roadmaps, etc. None of them answered it directly, always beating about the bush and just praising the company. Might be language/ cultural barrier/ company policy (they spoke English but some did not understand some words I used, be it due to pronunciation or vocabulary), but they hardly answered any of my questions properly. They were evasive, unprepared and unsubstantial. The HR who "contacted" me was also oddly informal in the few exchanges we had. During one of the final stages, the interviewer was exceedingly rude and condescending. He had me criticise my own interview performance, and belittled my past experiences. Might have been a sadistic tactic to crush my self esteem and possibly to pressure me into accepting whatever they offered. Got something like a verbal offer from him, saying he's "ok" with having me in spite of all the knowledge I'm lacking. It sounded like a gesture of goodwill out of pity, and I ought to be immensely grateful. I don't think Bytedance hires out of pity, and they are not lacking in talented candidates. This is clearly manipulation. Not going to wait for their final verdict before reviewing this experience.

The entire interview processes was a recruiter call plus three rounds of technical interviews. Interviewers were friendly. Technical coding questions and work related questions were asked based on your past work experiences. Each interview saved time for the candidate to ask questions.

The interview process was well-structured and relatively efficient. It typically consisted of multiple rounds: Online assessment / initial screening: Focused on data structures and algorithms, with medium-to-hard LeetCode-style problems. Technical interviews (2–3 rounds): Covered core computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, system design basics), along with problem-solving and coding in real time. Interviewers also asked follow-up questions to evaluate depth of understanding and optimization. Project discussion: Detailed discussion of past projects, including design decisions, trade-offs, and real-world impact. HR / behavioral round: Focused on communication skills, teamwork, and cultural fit. Overall, the process emphasized strong coding ability, solid fundamentals, and the ability to think clearly under pressure. Interviewers were generally professional, though the difficulty level was on the higher side, especially for algorithm questions.
