It went smoothly, lasted for 50 minutes. We discussed the requirements and expectations for the role. I was asked about my availability and how I would manage deadlines. All my doubts regarding the role were clarified.

Processo ocorreu alguns meses após uma candidatura inicial não selecionada, quando fui contatada para uma área similar. A entrevista durou cerca de 20 minutos, conduzida em inglês. A entrevistadora falou a maior parte do tempo explicando funções, metas e expectativas, com poucas pausas. Ao final, pediu que eu resumisse por chat, em inglês, os principais pontos apresentados. O foco da avaliação pareceu estar em produtividade (palavras/dia), rapidez e disponibilidade.

The process entailed an English language exam. I am a native English speaker, and I have a PhD. I have years of experience in writing academic manuscripts, theses, and grant applications. I have published in high-level academic journals. I am more than qualified for the job that was posted, and yet I was not considered because my score on an English exam was not considered passing. Many of the questions were a matter of opinion, such as asking which sentences were "awkward." Different people have different writing styles and opinions about what is considered "awkward." The exam was absolutely not an accurate test of one's writing or editing abilities. It was insulting, to say the least, and it a waste of an hour of my time. The exam is not an appropriate test for skilled academics, and in fact, it is incredibly insulting. It is clear that this company does not respect the people who work for them or their time. I deserve better than this, and I will take my talent and skills to somewhere that deserves me.
