It wasn't collegial. It felt like a cold, disorganized, confusing cattle call.
The 1st interview was with a recruiter. She was nice. She was able to tell me more about their structure and future goals than their executive team did.
Callisto's goals are only "hire a ton of people and push more books." The job positions are narrow, they don't want to hear about diverse talents, just "Can you push this *one* button, in this *one category*?" type of prompts.
My 2nd interview, I wasn't able to talk much, they did most of the talking. I got more and more uncomfortable.
It ended badly. I told her I enjoyed hearing more about Callisto and what's the next step? She said, "I'll be giving the recruiter my feedback on you, and she'll let you know either way." In a mean tone.

What's one genre, if you could work on ONE, forever, what would you pick?
They asked a lot of questions about how my current employer worked/our publishing process, invited me in for a second round interview, then cancelled my interview at the last minute.

They asked me several in depth questions about how my publishing company operated.
I believe that their interview was a scam to dig around for info on their competitors and not truly an opportunity for employment, A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn. My profile clearly states that I work for another publisher. I agreed to an interview over the phone. They asked a lot of probing questions, including very specific questions regarding my current publishing company and our practices. They scheduled interviews for me with a couple of staff members. I had to provide further information and there was some back and forth in order to coordinate all of this. Then right before the interview was supposed to take place, they cancelled stating that they had already filled enough editor roles. This seemed extremely shady to me and I am left wondering if this was just a ruse to get information about competitor companies.
