      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Camunda nel mese di ott 2021

      Colloquio

8 steps of meat-and-mind-grinding recruitment for the position of Junior UX/UI designer. Would anybody find acceptable that for a position of Junior UI/UX Designer, with an annual gross salary of not more 50k€, a candidate must go through not 2, not 3, not 4 but 6 video interviews, one off-line design task and one very complex and stressful 1.5 hours white board session, all taking place in different days during office hours??? At some point, Ihad the impression that I was being interviewed for the position of Senior Director or even Vice President of UI/UX Design! I definitely find Camunda recruitment process a tremendous overkill, way too long, frustrating and terribly stressful for the candidate to the limit of human disrespect which in my opinion clearly shows the lack of capability of Camunda’s reps to properly evaluate a candidate in a reasonable, fair and timely-mannered way. They all need to be trained on recruitment if they need 8 sessions managed by 6 different internal reps before they are able to hire or reject a candidate. What’s more, Camunda’s HR did not inform me that the recruitment process would happen in 8 sessions, I repeat eight sessions, taking place in different days during office hours which obliged me to take 8 days off from current job. Why don’t they schedule the sessions in one or two days only, for the sake of the candidate’s free time and respect. During the 8 sessions, the 6 different interviewers asked me the same questions over and over again. They clearly need to review the efficiency and the scheduling of their processes and possibily improve their internal communication. If HR had informed me about the madness of this scheduling, I would have never accepted to get into their meat-and-mind-grinder recruitment machine. During the white board session the candidate is subjected to a very high level of pressure by the interviewers who do not leave the candidate any space nor time to think before designing and do not offer any sort of support or cooperation. It was an actual psychological torture especially because the candidate is obviously not familiar at all with the specific internal processes and products of Camunda and the interviewers do not provide any briefing to the candidate. In my career I have attended recruitment processes for well-known and very large companies like Bosch, Daimler and Porsche which, differently from Camunda’s torture machine, were conducted with the highest level of respect for the candidate in terms of time taken and psychological pressure and stress. At the end of the 8th step, I received from Camunda the most standard and most generic rejection template which once again shows how disrespectful and unfair this company can be to their candidates. After I got to the last and 8th step, at least they could provide a detailed explaination for the reason of the rejection. In conclusion, I suggest job-seekers to stay away from this company. If this is their recruitment process, one doesn’t want to work for people like those. Below you find a summary of the 8 recruitment steps that I endured.

      Domande di colloquio [1]

      Domanda 1

      1) 30 Min. video interview with a HR representarive of the company. I was asked the most standard HR questions such as: why do you want to change your current job, why do you want to choose Camunda, what Camunda’s product do you find interesting or you like the most, salary expectations, starting day, if I have work permission in Germany etc. 2) 30. Min. video interview with the UX/UI Manager, who would be my direct line manager. I was asked pretty basic questions about all my previous work experiences, my ability to communicate with stakeholders, with engineers and with product managers, why I want to change my current job etc. 3) Assignment (they call it „take-home-test“: I had to redesign one page inside one of the Camunda‘s Cloud applications. I was given 7 days to deliver the following three points of the task: the first pencil draft of my design, the new high-fidelity design and a written explanation of my design solutions. 4) After delivering the task, I was informed that it was good enough to go ahead to the next step of the recruitment process which is a 1,5 hours white board session with my direct line manager and the director of engineering. The main purpose of this session was to evaluate my UX-Design thinking capability and see how I communicate with the engineering department in this design phase. In the beginning of the session I was given one of the Camunda cloud app (Tasklist) with the request to analyse the main user-friendly gaps of the application and to offer solutions for improvement. After a couple of days I received a positive feedback about the whiteboard session and i got an invitation to the last round of 4 (yes, another 4!!!) interviews. 5) The first one was a 30 min. interview with an UI/UX designer who asked me detailed questions about my experience and knowledge in UI/UX design. We went through a couple of my projects and some UX solutions from previous works of mine. 6) The second was a 30 Min. interview with the Sr. Director of Design who asked me about my UX design experience: what is difficult the most for me in UX/UI, how do I define metric success, my experience with testing new design and features, how do I get feedbacks on the implemented new features, crucial mistakes I made and how I solved it. 7) The third was a 30 min. interview with the Director Product Manager (funny title but that’s the way they call it). I was asked most of the time about the way I communicate with stakeholders and the way how I document briefings and sessiones with them. Besides received questions about the process flow in my current company for the implementation of new features in the website (definition of the problem, first draft, testing, a/b testing, improvement and so on) 8) The fourth was a 20 min. (it lasted 40 min. actually) wrap-up session with the UI/UX Designer (my direct line manager). Together, we made a summary of the whole interview process. As well, I was explained what would be expected from me from my line my manager and from the company in general in terms of reliability, responsibility, punctuality etc. In this session I had the chance to ask some questions about company rules. Thank you for reading my review and DO NOT APPLY AT CAMUNDA!!!
