I was contacted by a recruiter regarding a Senior Global Portfolio Accounting Associate position in Norfolk. I received an interview, but it was for a Global Securities Operations Associate position. The recruiter assured me this was just something to do with their system, and that the company was very aware I was an accountant interested in accounting jobs. When interviewing with the HR person, I finally learned that they select applicants for both groups from one pool of candidates, then place them where they meet the company's needs. During the interview, Chris Webster asked, "Are you military?" Hampton Roads is saturated with current and former military members, so I found it odd that this interviewer was not aware that this question is inappropriate, if not illegal. The interview was all behavioral questions. I've never had more disinterested interviewers. They made it feel as if they were interviewing me to meet a quota. By the end, I still knew very little in regards to the type of accounting work the position would have, despite my numerous attempts. For me, the whole experience was a red flag. I interviewed at 1:30 pm, and I received an automated rejection email at 5:00pm the next business day.
