      Colloquio per Client Services

      4 dic 2014
      Candidato anonimo a colloquio
      Irvine, CA
      Offerta rifiutata
      Esperienza neutra
      Colloquio difficile

      Candidatura

Ho presentato la mia candidatura online. La procedura ha richiesto 4 settimane. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Capital Group (Irvine, CA) nel mese di ott 2014

      Colloquio

I applied online, and was contacted via email for an automated 'electronic' interview. They ask you to record your answers to pre-recorded questions from your phone or computer, but you're not speaking to a live person. I actually deleted the email and did not bother because I felt it was very impersonal and kind of an odd screening process. I probably should've stuck with my first instinct. A few weeks later, I was contacted by a real person for a quick phone screen, lots of behavioral questions such as "tell me a time when..." or "tell me step by step how you handled this situation". Some of the questions did not apply at all to my past experience or background yet they still expected a detailed answer. I've been lucky to have had very positive career experiences so far, so I could not really speak on challenges or difficulties faced in the work place, as I have always gotten along great with all my bosses/coworkers at each position, and have never really faced any particularly challenging or pressing situations in my previous roles. Next step was another 40 minute phone interview with a recruiter that ate up my calling plan and my time. More potential irrelevant behavioral questions, there were points in the interview where I was actually making up scenarios just to have a response. Eventually an in person interview, more impersonal/sterile people. Every question starts with 'tell me a time when', so make sure you really reflect on your past experiences before interviewing, and have several examples ready to explain. The situational questions were a bit overkill, especially for an entry level position where a candidates' previous experience may not apply so much to the role they're applying for. I can't even imagine how I would answer half of the questions if I was a recent graduate or truly 'entry level'. The questions are the same over and over, just re-worded differently, and if you have 'straight to the point' common sense type of personality like I do, it gets very tiring very quickly. Submitting references was difficult because I was self employed for a number of years, and they require that your references be previous managers (uh, I was the manager). Again, not sure how that would work for someone who was just starting out but hopefully they ask them different questions. Salary for the position was not set and DOE, which gives them the ability to pay you as much or as little as they want, which I felt was kind of shady. Advice to management: Overhaul your HR department and hire people who have actual personalities. Speak directly to your candidates. Cut out the tedious pseudo-science behavioral crap from the interview process. (This is coming from someone with HR training myself, even though that was not the role I applied for).

      Domande di colloquio [1]

      Domanda 1

General questions such as "are you eligible for rehire at previous jobs", "tell me a time when" about a thousand times over, "how specifically did you overcome a challenging situation", questions were all behavioral/situational and not about the position, there was no opportunity to really ask questions of the interviewers, the entire process felt very sterile and like a waste of my time because it was so repetitive.
