I was asked to do a HackerRank Test: impossible to finish it within the timeframe they give.
70 mins for:
- Creating specific functionalities of a React web app simulating a e-commerce store.
- A matrix-type algorithm to solve
I spent the whole time doing the React part with no time left to even start the other task.
You have to clone the repository locally (you can’t change it through the browser) and push the changes.
I had to read the whole problem and requirements which take some time, study the code (which by the way was using an old React version with no hooks) and then start coding and running the tests. Just to clone code, get used to it and understand the problem will take you around 20 mins so you’re left with 40 mins to actually start doing stuff not even mentioning you still have a whole other algorithm problem which you haven’t even took a look to yet...
Seems like a good company, but the whole hiring process needs a deep review in my opinion...

I hope they offered salary range on job offer or at least before first technician interview. I disclosed had to disclose my salary expectations in the middle of the process. Had interview with CTO and another one with co-founder after that. I even had salary negotiation with some hr chick. They gave me few days to resign from my current company and instead of papers to sign they offered me 30% pay cut and said that they "will try to make it work for me".
This is really scummy way of treating future employees. Front-end is in high demand so I was able to get fair rate I wanted at other company. Unfortunately because I didn't expect that they will walk back on what was offered I dropped few other companies. Even though deal falling through is not big issue for technician person, companies are built from different people. I wouldn't want to find out that my co-worker is around only because company screwed him over during interview process and he lost other options. Keep away.
