After applying for several jobs and being rejected by the initial screening without ever hearing from a human being, I finally had the opportunity to talk to a recruiter for one of the positions. The scheduling is done with an automated system that offers you several timeslots to choose from.
The conversation was positive, organic, and interviewee led for the most part. The recruiter asked reasonable questions and said I would hear back soon and he would be recommending me to the hiring manager for a follow up interview.
I contacted the recruiter shortly after, thanking him for his time and he said I would be hearing back soon, and noted people usually hear back within a few days.
2 weeks goes by and I reach out again, to which the recruiter stops replying entirely.
2-3 weeks goes by again and the position is now closed and I receive an automated survey request asking for my feedback about the hiring process.
Citizens has removed the human element from so much of it's hiring process, like many other companies. The communication vacuum on every of the hiring process is abysmal and dehumanizing to prospective employees. Feel like it's probably better I didn't hear back if this is indicative of how the rest of the organization performs.
Citizens also posts many IT positions as 'remote', however in the interview they admit they would rather hire someone local and would prefer if I commuted, even though the recruiter I spoke with admitted he was mostly remote himself.
