Was contacted via email about the position, sounded like a technical position and a step up in my career. We scheduled a time to speak on the phone and determined that I had a sufficient skill-set and there were very few questions about my experiences which should have been a red flag. They decided to move forward for an in person interview. I was asked my salary expectations and was told "We can work with that". I had sent a follow up email inquiring their range for salary and was told it was to be determined by their CTO Tim. The in person interview went well until we spoke about salary and was quickly surprised that they would expect me to take a 10-20k cut in my salary. Obviously this entire miscommunication if they had 1) used a staffing agency to handle the entire process 2) been upfront about their salary and not hide and mislead me. The fact I sent a follow up email gave them a chance to come clean and be honest about the potential range. I asked them WHY they don't use recruiters and they blamed their CTO Tim. So thanks Tim, I took a day off work and wasted my day and everyone's time. This whole process is unprofessional and at the very least they should consider outsourcing the responsibility to their HR department. For a company this big they should have internal recruiters.
