I applied early in August and was reached out to by a recruiter about a week or two later. They set up a screener interview, just going over the job and the pay. The moved forward with my application and set an interview with the hiring manager. They didn’t ask the usual ”name a time when” questions. They just asked if I had this or that qualification, which tells me they didn’t even bother looking over my resume or application. Despite this, we had a good conversation and they informed me they liked my answers and said I’d be moving to the final “interview” which is an offer with HR and should get a call the following week. That week goes by and I contact the recruiter, but receive no response. I try again the next week, still no response. It was nearly four weeks later and emailing multiple times, till I finally got a response. They informed me the hiring manager wants to “keep looking” for another month, which is highly suspicious when I was told I’d be getting an offer. I informed the recruiter about the timeline, what the hiring manager told me and see if they’d be able to issue an offer sooner instead of spending unnecessary time interviewing more people when they have a more than qualified person already who was already supposed to receive an offer with HR. They replied back an hour later stating they spoke with the hiring manager and they already offered the role to someone else during those four weeks I’ve been trying to get in contact with them. I was beyond furious and felt extremely insulted. Why tell someone they’re going to be getting an offer and not follow through? Why ghost them for a month just to offer the role to someone else during that time? Why lie about wanting another month to “do more interviews” when you already offered the role to a second person already? Shame on the recruiter and shame on the hiring manager for wasting a nearly two months of someone’s time as it’s highly disrespectful. They wanted to keep my resume for future positions, but after how they treated me by being unprofessional, I declined.
