      Colloquio

Pre-interview Process: I applied for several roles with Dish Network and during the initial phone screen with the recruiter, it was ruled out that one of the positions I would not be considered for. The recruiter and I set a date for the in-person interview early in the week for the middle of the next week, that Monday before the in-person interview I still had not received the details of where I was supposed to report to and who I was to ask for. I sent a follow-up email to the recruiter and later received a phone call requesting that I report the next day, Tuesday, for a skills assessment when I had informed the recruiter that I did not have any availability for that day and receive a response that "you aren't working so you have time" which was a very incorrect assumption to make (strike #1). In-person Interview: I showed up at the interview location and got checked in rather quickly. The recruiter brought me into an interview room and we waited for the first two individuals to show up. The first two individuals I spoke with were pleasant, though one of the people that I could have been reporting to was lost with what I was talking about as my level of knowledge was above his skills. The third person I spoke to was pleasant though was very distracted and not ready for an interview as they showed up with nothing in their hands to take notes. The fourth person that I was scheduled to speak with is where it really started to go down-hill rather quickly. They stated that recruiting should have included their boss in the interview process though they did not know "to do their job correctly", which is not professional to state during an interview (strike #2). So the fourth persons boss steps in several minutes later with the first words out their mouth is an insult on my appearance and not even an introduction or handshake, I was dressed professionally as I have worked in many corporate settings in the past (strike #3). Then the discussion continued with the last two people and the F-bombs and other profanity started to come out of this boss's mouth, which then was stated that they had been there for about 19 years and know everything about the organization (strike #4). When responding to open-ended questions I was again insulted that they did not like my answers and that I was too long winded with my responses (strike #5). Post Interview: The only position that I was offered was the lowest position and at a salary more than $20K under my minimum requirement. The recruiter contacted me via phone to set up a phone call with their VP of Supply Chain to discuss the interviews. During that phone call, I relayed my experiences of the entire process and how the organization lacks professionalism in many ways in dealing with potential employees. Conclusion: I took this interview as it is always good to get interview practice and it taught me a lot about what I do not want in a company/co-worker/leadership. I would not suggest working at Dish Network as their corporate culture is very toxic!
