Red flag alert on organization and ethics - NOT GOOD!
Interviewed multiple times for a Director position. The first interview was a group interview onsite and went smoothly. I was concerned that I was interviewing for a position that didn't have a job description - they felt to me like a seat of the pants operation.
Largely disorganized. Interviewers were late. Office furniture was temporary - folding chairs and tables - and dirty. The kitchen area was a mess.
And, no job description that I could use to prepare for the interview.
The second round was with the executives of the Company - and this is where the ethics concern lies. First, they asked me if I knew a former colleague of mine by name, and I stated that I did. Then, as they were so proud to tell me, right after they had attended Church, they proceed to malign and speak poorly of this person - perhaps my colleague didn't interview well, but no matter - talking about confidential interviewees is just bad.
The second MAJOR red flag occurred when one of the founders pushed their lab notebook towards me and asked me to diagram and summarize how a particular piece of proprietary technology at my employer of the time worked.
Yes, right into their lab notebook.
Clearly, this wasn't going to happen and it didn't, but the fact that they used their power during the interview to attempt to steal company secrets was a non-starter for me.
They asked me for further interviews, but I summarized my experience with their out-of-house recruiter and withdrew my candidacy, along with any possible respect I could have had for these two founders.
A train wreck, in my opinion. This place should be avoided.
We're sorry to hear about your experience. We need to interview with technical deep dives with all of our engineering candidates, and we have always reminded them not to disclose confidential company information. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime, as we would love to resolve this issue.
