The entire interview consisted of answering 5 questions presented by 3 interviewers. 2 of the interviewers worked within the group you being interviewed for, and the 3rd was from an outside group that was supposed to provide objective insight.
The 5 questions were to be answered using the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and applied to previous jobs. DTE provided details of this technique in the invitation to interview e-mail, which was very helpful. It is posted on their website as well.
The purpose of this technique is to take all the emotion out of the hiring process, but leaves the interviewee feeling distant from the interviewers, and unable to gauge how these people would be to work with. The interviewers were constantly taking notes, and made sure they were following their process. While the questions may help in determining the person's background, there is little back and forth conversation.
The interview lasted one hour.
