Interview for senior financial analyst for corporate development was like an interview for someone fresh out of college interviewing for investment banking -- nothing but formula regurgitation. I have four years of valuation advisory and a year of equity research -- ridiculous (you really think I could get this far without knowing a CAPM??). Nothing during the interview that was asked was substantive. Just formula regurgitation from first quarter of b-school -- dance boy dance -- and done in a condescending way. If you want this job, do your formula regurgiation exercises. For some reason, they think this has some bearing on what makes up a good M&A analyst. My guess is that this is a rite of passage -- they had to put up with this garbage in investment banks, they are former i-bankers -- therefore they think that they feel entitled to that. Being in the process of doing this interview for same job with other firms, I can tell you that this is definitely not par for the course, but not hugely surprising either knowing bankers and having worked in investment banks.

Their HR department send up a phone interview where we discussed my background. She liked the interview and told me she would pass my resume on to the hiring manager. A few days later she emailed me and said the hirig manager decided not to move forward. But here's the problem I have. Since the hiring manager wes interested enough in my resume to view my profile online, I can only guess that he didn't like that i was older than him. I believe that's called ageism.

Had a phone screening that went smooth. Next step was phone calls with 3 senior people that either I would report to or work close with. The interview itself was a bit disorganized. They had overbooked the conference number so other people were calling in during my interview. They asked typical questions (some behavioral/situational and overall if i would be a good fit). One thing I noticed was that throughout all the interviews there was a common theme...they kept mentioning that there are a lot of ivy league alumns working at the firm.
They said they would let me know in few days if they would fly me out for final round but never got a call or email. Followed up but since then it has been silence...and it's been close to two months. Find it quite unprofessional.

Very clunky. First phone screen was quick but then had to follow up regarding next stages after each step. Very vague interview process ended with an interview circuit day with several other candidates which was a very awkward dynamic - just wasn't expecting that since they didn't say anything.
The manager is brand new to his role and it shows. No follow up, little clarity on what was going on, and being shuffled around by a receptionist who was also equally confused didn't leave a great impression.
