The PR and the Marketing team of this company are doing an excellent job taking it to impressive heights, and you get a feeling that this company has a strong culture of innovation that everyone wants to be a part of.
But, when you enter this company, all the images created by their loud PR, just vanishes. The unprofessionalism is evident at the onset. They have absolutely no protocol for conducting a decent interview. They will keep you standing, waiting, on the floor, crammed with loudly chatting employees, while you see the junior HR struggle to find a place for interview, and finally you will be pushed into a matchbox-sized cabin barely enough for one.
There is no coordination between the tech team and the HR. HR will set expectations that differ completely from what the tech team wants. You can’t help but feel sympathy for the helpless HR when you later understand that the tech team themselves don’t know what they want.
Someone who has less than half your experience and knowledge will interview you, and they will ask you questions that will not go not beyond “What is _________ “. Even when you provide a logically correct answer, it will not satisfy them unless you give a mediocre answer that they were already expecting. They will even give you clues to help you arrive at the answer they were expecting. Don’t be surprised if this interviewer gives you lectures on technology.
Then, by a stroke of luck, if this junior interviewer sees some merit in you, you will have the pleasure of meeting the Senior interviewer who looks at his mobile phone more that your resume. He will ask you irrelevant questions that have no relation to the practical use of technology or practical programming concepts. It looks like this company is not serious about their software development practices.
If you have a strong background in technology, and you have created quality products, and if technology is your passion, make sure you go to the interview with your thick skin, or else you might end up feeling worthless, and that too for no reason.
