Something fishy going on here. I too had a similar experience to what others describe. Moved along by TA to an interview with the manager, and had a great meeting. My experience and qualifications fit the role truly well, and I seemed to have great rapport with the interviewer. Afterwards she even reached out directly to let me know they had further interviews but to contact her in the meantime in case I had any other questions about the role. So I was admittedly a bit floored when I got an email from the TA early the next morning telling me that even though I "presented extremely well" (their words), I was no longer in consideration - a result that completely contradicted the previous afternoon's experience. Look, I'm not so egotistical or vain to be suggesting there's no way I shouldn't have been offered the position, or anything like that. Certainly they may have had a better candidate in mind. But even if I wasn't their top choice at that point, no smart company outright disqualifies a reasonably strong candidate before ensuring their target hire was going to formally accept, pass background checks...all the things. No way that happens in less than 12 or so hours. My wife is a former TA manager, so she's speculated what's really going on, but who knows for sure. Luckily I've got other opportunities underway, but I can't help feel like I've had my time wasted.
