The HR woman was incredibly nice. I applied for one position, interviewed for it, and didn’t get the role. She said she would help me find a job in the Dollar Tree family and referred me for another position. I applied for this one as well. Since this is during COVID, and I was living out of state at the time, my interviews were over the phone and done circuit style (a half hour interview with one person, then a half hour interview with another person). The people I interviewed with gave off conflicting vibes. I was answering the questions professionally, but my answers were always dismissed. “Oh, but you’re not familiar with THIS system”, as an example. I tried to find ways to spin these into a positive light but they came off as unimpressed. I assumed I didn’t get the job. One of the interviewers also kept saying that this was a “family friendly company”, which came off somewhat harsh. I am openly gay and I have a lisp, and it wasn’t easy to take the comment to light. The HR woman called me afterwards and asked me how it went. I was honest with her and told her that I felt uncomfortable about some of the comments made. She apologized and told me that the interviewers loved me and that she wanted to offer me the role. That should’ve been the red flag right there but I still took the role because I needed it. The interview process itself was fair and fast. The HR people are beyond lovely. But the actual interview questions are tough and their demeanor can come off as harsh.
