      Colloquio

A quick glance of Interview reviews here demonstrate 3 things I learned at the end of a 2-3 month process with DoorDash: 1) DoorDash does not care about the applicants that apply to work for their company 2) DoorDash has a covert (but definitely internally codified) system for requiring applicants to complete real life case studies solving an actual issue or problem they are facing to idea farm off of applicants 3) Recruiters lack attention to detail and proper follow up I started the DoorDash interview process while I was unemployed and after months of promising interviews and dozens of hours on a case study - I was rejected from the role. I was appalled at the lack of professionalism and begged the recruiter to give me feedback, which I thought was a perfectly reasonable request given that I had spent hours and hours on interviews, panels, and written a 6 month long plan (hi unemployment boredom!) and handed it over during the 3rd/4th round. She gave me nothing more than "a more qualified applicant" (I later learned they never hired for this role but hired for a more Junior position. I also learned that 3-4 colleagues who are in similar lines of work also interviewed for the Senior Manager job, and went through the same grueling multi-round process, for nothing.) I pressed again, asking for more context, as I was (actually) interviewing for the same role at a few other companies and wanted feedback so I could do better with them. I got nothing! lol. Another huge flag was before I presented the case study, I previewed my presentation with someone on the team and they kept asking questions that were totally irrelevant to the task at hand and even the role itself. It was a very specific job but they kept asking me to think about "overarching messaging" "themes" "comms strategy" "approach from a digital perspective" and things that were actually the jobs of at least 2 other people. I've heard of tech companies (I work in another industry) idea farming but this was next level. I was suspicious but hopeful after I was immediately invited to next round. Similar to another reviewer, I also learned that they did a back channel reference check on me. They reached out to a senior level person at my previous job (that I didn't even work with) and that person didn't respond which negatively impacted my application. It is HORRIFYING to learn that they are doing this. Luckily, I wasn't working there at the time, but weird to do this without asking applicant first so they can ask for reasonable explanations. You can ask for specific relationship referneces (someone lateral to you, someone senior to you but didnt manage you, someone you managed) and get the same answers they were looking for but professionally and correctly. The final and most frustrating thing I learning that they never hired someone at this level for this role. And to learn that they did this to 3-4 of my professional colleagues and friends was even worse. They literally just talked to us to get our ideas on how to solve this NY specific problem. The sad thing for DoorDash is that this world is small and people will talk. Your disgusting practices will get you no where and wish you the best of luck!
