I started the process with interviewing with one of their engineers. We discussed about his experience with the company and answered a few typical coding problems that took only 10 minutes. We spent the next 20 minutes digging deeper into what refactoring I might consider to make the code production ready and what scaling look like. This helps me understand how it is like working there as an employee and I was super excited to move forward. Next step is a 3 hour onsite to meet with another engineer and founders. The technical part of the interview was very difficult. What was atypical about the on-site is they focus a lot on the cultural fit of the candidate besides assessing the technical skills. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer but one of the founder walked through his thinking process in the decision. I appreciate the transparency and I think the company has a lot of potential.

I was referred to this job opportunity through a recruiter and within a couple days had an initial phone screen with them directly and learned more about the opportunity and skills set they were looking for in a candidate. The first call with the company was a half hour long discussion with their CTO and consisted of two programming challenges (about 10-15 minutes each) to help gauge my programming skills. At the end of the call, another phone screen was setup for the next day to help me further understand the job role and the company. On the second call I talked with their CTO again for another half hour and got to ask questions about the company, what they were working on, what the role entailed, and just for him to further get to know me. After this call, my on-site interview was scheduled for the following week. My on-site meeting lasted 3.5 hours and was a mix of meeting the whole team as well as two other programming challenges (Each was about a 1-1.5 hours each). The on-site started with the programming challenges, one of which was front-end website focused and the other was back-end system focused, as I was interviewed for a full-stack role. These challenges took up the most of the on-site. The rest of the time was spent meeting the team, asking them questions, as well as them asking me questions to get a better understanding of my background and skills. Overall it was a quick and painless interview process. The only thing that really threw me off a little was the initial phone screen as I wasn't expecting programming challenges, but they weren't difficult at all and I was easily able to solve them.
