- Culture fit interview
- "take home" code challenge
- Technical interview reviewing code challenge
The culture fit interview was plenty fine, led me to be fairly excited about the position. The code challenge was frankly kind of ridiculous though.. they ask you to limit your efforts to 4 hours for a two part challenge. Part 1 was pseudo-code/design and part 2 was building an application. For part 2, they ask you to build out a fully fledged application with separate frontend and backend. During my technical interview, I was grilled for cutting some corners during part 2. I explained that I was asked to keep my efforts to a maximum of 4 hours and that I also have a family and life outside of work and they were not paying for my time to work on this challenge (in more polite words of course) - they didn't seem to appreciate the sentiment that I prefer a work/life balance. Regardless, I felt that I did an acceptable job during the interview. The take home challenge met every requirement asked as well as covering all of the "bonus" objectives that they asked for. Yet I was still "ghosted" when waiting to hear back for an offer. Even though the recruiter assured me that they would reach out to me after the final interview. After my technical interview, I got the feeling that this was a "grind culture" job with little to no respect for your personal life outside of the position. I feel like I may have dodged a bullet even though this opportunity seemed really cool on paper.
