      Colloquio

      I interviewed for a Contact Center Supervisor in its Arizona location. I was originally contacted by a recruiter for the company to do a phone screening. The first interview went well and within 2 days I was emailed by the same recruiter to schedule a second interview with the Hiring Managers that would last '2-3 hours'. I promptly replied with my availability for the second interview. I also received two more emails requesting that I submit a personality assessment questionnaire and five references online through a vendor they contract with. I completed the 200+ questions of the personality assessment as well as shared the contact information for all five of my professional references (two of which had to be former managers). I waited to hear a response from the recruiter about when the second interviews would take place, but instead I received a phone call from her stating that the Hiring Team decided 'to pursue other candidates that are more qualified for the role.' I told her I'm confused since I received a bunch of emails indicating I was moving forward in the recruiting process, but she just repeated herself and seemed audibly anxious. I've never had this happen to me before. I had to inform all five of my references that the company made a mistake. And I know for a fact that I was overqualified for the position since it's a entry level to mid level role and I've been a manager with a MBA doing the similar responsibilities in the financial services industry for 13 years now. If this was the reason then they could have just been honest about it. Instead, they wasted my time and that of my references who had already begun providing information. The experience makes me wonder about discriminatory hiring practices from this employer. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to other job seekers. If the company is this deceptive before coming in the door I can't imagine what it's like to work there.

      Thank you for providing feedback on your interviewing experience with Financial Engines. Our evaluation process for many of our positions does include both an assessment questionnaire as well as conducting reference checks prior to the formal interview. It is a lengthy process, but it allows us to conduct an interview tailored to the candidates’ specific skills and areas of opportunity in order to make a holistic hiring decision with qualitative data. It is not our practice to have a candidate complete these requirements until they have been scheduled for a formal interview. Unfortunately, timing was an issue here. Position requirements did change and the decision to not move forward with a formal interview resulted in your experience. Your frustration is understandable and your experience is not what we want for any of our candidates.
